Op-Ed: If the GOP Cuts Federal Unemployment, Make Them Unemployed This November
sdsfs.jpg
The $600 dollar federal unemployment subsidy provided by the CARES Act ends July 31st, but it has already changed the lives of 10s of millions of working people for the better.
While the additional money was meant to supplement the median income during the lockdown, the Ways and Means Committee found that five out of six laid off workers are bringing in more cash now than they ever did working in the private sector economy. The American middle class is a figment of our imaginations.Â
Despite the 11% unemployment rate (a likely undercount), usurers have suffered greatly during the pandemic. The combination of reduced spending during the lockdown and stimulus money has allowed people to begin getting out from under credit card debt. Revolving consumer debt has fallen below $1 trillion for the first time in almost a decade. Personal savings in May doubled compared to March. 40% of households have somebody receiving the $600 a week and are crediting this policy with allowing them to continue paying off their mortgage and keeping food on the table.Â
Knowing all this, Donald Trump and the GOP Senate have announced that they will be fighting the Democrats to abruptly end the first program to benefit ordinary people in decades this week because it “discourages people from going back to work.” For the next $1 trillion dollar financial aid bill, the Republicans want to use the money they take from struggling households to open up a front against the Social Security system (“payroll tax cuts”) along with giving the rich another tax cut. Â
The Reverse Robin Hood’s will be hurting the GOP’s own voters the most. The states with the most abysmal local unemployment benefits are uniformly red. The citizens who will be betrayed consistently deliver presidencies and governorships to the Republicans every 2-4 years.
In Arizona almost a million people are currently unemployed, but the maximum persons of any income can get without federal aid is a pathetic $240 per week. In Tennessee, where 700,000 first-time unemployment claims have been filed since March, families will be expected to survive on $275 a week. If the GOP cuts their lifeline, they should respond in kind in November.Â
Conservative hypocrites have been advising Trump to cut relief for working families while at the same time enriching themselves by stealing from the tax payer. The Jew Art Laffer, a longtime Trump economic adviser, has been a loud opponent of the unemployment subsidy. It was recently revealed the failing company he helps run received $20 million in Payment Protection Program (PPP) loans, which Steve Mnuchin has announced will be forgiven and transformed into grants.Â
The Ayn Rand Institute was approved for six or seven figures in PPP bucks, as were PragerU, The Daily Caller. Grover Norquist’s American’s For Tax Reform and other Friedmanite fans of Trump’s shitty tax-cut idea. Multi-national chains are receiving the money intended for small businesses even though they’re backed by private equity.Â
The Republican Party and the conservative movement have shown themselves to be the enemies of white working people — the only group of voters keeping them around. Their Jewish handlers see the writing on the wall. As the GOP collapses in the polls, Zionists like Sheldon Adelson have been injecting more and more cash into their races.Â
For years, the Republicans have sided with their donors against their voters, comforted in the idea that they will be too scared of the Democrats to stop voting for them. The collapse in white support for Trump shows that the public is getting wise to the fact that the Republican Party is an elaborate fraud intended to enable the Democrats’ anti-white policies by destroying white solidarity and labor power.Â
The GOP adamantly refusing to defend white people on any cultural issue while donning their shining armor to take money from the unemployed and redistribute it to the elite ought to be the last straw.Â
Call Mitch McConnell  202-224-2541 and make it clear that if he doesn’t extend the unemployment, you will do everything in your power to ensure he and his cohorts become unemployed this November. Let’s see if Lady G, currently dropping in the polls, can survive on South Carolina’s $326 dollar state benefit.Â
